Tuesday 25th Jenolan Caves

We got up this morning, after a very windy night at the lake, in which we both had little sleep. Todays plan, drive to Mt Victoria, drop the Trailer off at my brother’s house and head to Jenolan Caves for the day/night. Me, having grown up here and Dad, having been a coach driver doing day trips from katoomba, i have done many a trip to the caves as an early teenager. But as Dad was always on a schedule never really got to see much of the caves themselves. So, Lyndall has never seen anything like this, so it was a good opportunity to do a few caves tours, and have a nice dinner there and stay the night. I will say that the food was awesome, considering it seems to be a training centre for hospitality students, and the service was good also. Drinks were way way overpriced, i mean $9 for an extra dry???  Room was clean, although needing a freshen up. The entire property itself though looks like it hasn’t had too much maintenance done since i was a teenager.  We had a good time, did 2 caves, 1 being the Orient Cave, and then after lunch the River Cave. I’ll let some pics to the talking.

These are the orient cave and some of general areas.

The following are from the river cave

The growth of all these is about 1cm3 per 100 years. Just shows how old these caves are.

The river. Back in the day, this used to be a boat ride to cross this. With many failed attempts as the early cavers, had to build their raft on site in the cave after lugging materials in.
