Today we are going to look at the glow worm tunnel. I’ve been there millions of times, but Lyndall never. Today was check out day of the van park also. We took the trailer with us as I had no idea where we would camp tonight. While having a coffee I grabbed the camera and wandered over to the rail line that runs behind the van park, to maybe catch some pics of the coal trains, while I was there I notice some large viaducts down the track, it just happens that the park owner walked past, and I asked if I could follow this rd and get some pics. She said that is rail corp property and not to go there, but then took me over the other side of the park, pointed me down through a paddock that they owned and said you can go through there. Is also happens to bring me out right under the viaducts. Some quick photos, and scoot back past the goats, and I return to pack up.

We hit the road and stop at the old state mine on the way out. The museum was closed, but the guys in the rail workshop lets us stick our head in for a look. Would be great to have a good wander around here.

Anyway back in the car and off we go. We hit the dirt and the road was really bad, lots of logging trucks use it, so we pulled over, and dropped some air out and kept going. Once we got the closer the road starts to narrow as the road follows what used to be the rail line.We go through a few cuttings and drive through one old rail tunnel before arrivng at the carpark. We set off on foot for the 1km walk towards the glow worm tunnel.

On the way down the clouds start coming in and a few drops of rain. we made it to the tunnel and walked through, stopping in the middle to turn the torch of to veiw the glow worms. when you stand in the middle of this tunnel you cannot see either end of it, so makes it very dark, hence why this is one of the very few places in the world where you can veiw glowworms in the middle of the day.

We walked right to the other end, had a quick look around and turned around for the walk back out.

it’s now you realise that you are walking back uphill, ever so slightly but its uphill. On the way it starts pouring down and we got drenched which was more relieve than anything else. We make it back to the car and jump in, removing our now muddy boots, i though them in the back and we headed off. We had about 30km of dirt road to retrace so it is now a wet muddy, slippery dirt rd. On our way back Lyndall wanted lunch so i pulled off the track and made some quick rolls and ate them. On the rd and i had to decide where to go for tonight. As the weather wasn’t to flash here and it looked ok over lithgow itself, i decided lake Lyell might be the spot tonight. So we head back into lithgow, stopping to air up just as we hit the bitumen and the rain stopped, good timing. On to lake Lyell where we paid our camp fee and found a good little spot overlooking the lake away from everyone else. We set up the trailer, drove back to the shower blocks for a quickie, shower that is, and settled into camp for the night. It was very relaxing with a few drinks in hand looking over the lake.Tonight was also the first night that we had to cook something from the trailer. Steak sandwiches it was.

Best spot on the trip so far
