This weekend I left Lyndall to organise, so off to neurum creek bush retreat it is.
Lyndall hot off work a bit early and I had too, so we left the coast at about 1/4 past 3 to do the run north towards Woodford.
A 6 car pile up slowed this down at daisy hill and also effected the northbound traffic too. Once through this we had a good run till the normal Friday traffic at nudgee. Sat In stop start traffic for about 15km but that’s ok, no rush. We finally got off the Bruce and headed west into the setting sun.
At Woodford we turned off to do the final leg to the retreat. Just before the last turnoff we round the bend to see 2 officers standing in the middle of the rd, they flag us down and inform us it is just a random breath test. All good on my side of things and off we go, just goes to show, they can be anywhere, anytime.
Our camp for the weekend
By the time we arrive it is about 10 to 6 so we go and check in, pick up some firewood and head to our site. As it turned out they had someone selling wood fire pizzas so I dropped Lyndall off to get that for dinner and i went to set up.
Set up was un-eventful and we settled in for a quite night around the fire and discussed our day.
Saturday.
Giving the new panels a run. Projecta 120w solar blanket. Folds to the size of one panel.
Today we awoke to a foggy morning which soon started to lift. I got the fire going to take the chill off but it really wasn’t that cold at all. Lyndall then rose out of bed so, I got a big brekky on (Bacon, eggs, tomato, hash browns, sausages). After breakfast we geared up to head off for a mornings walk. Ge’ez I tell you what, I am not as fit as I used to be. We walked up a track thinking it was the right one, and kept walking up hill, steeper steeper and steeper, turned out it was the wrong track so we had to back track a good 400m back downhill.
Veiw from the top of the really steep part we climbedJust see the nose of ulti and the back of the car.
A quick right turn found us back on track, so to speak, and we were off, up hill, downhill, back up and finally back down on to the river flat. We made our way back to camp following the retreat roads. Back at camp it was time for lunch, after a test run with the jaffle iron ( in reality chatting to the guy at the camp next door I forgot and burnt the crap out of it). Take 2 all good and we have just being sitting around since then. Got the fire going early to get some coals for my spit chicken tonight, so I thought I would type this up. Back soon.
Charlie! On the tracks!Another dry creekCreek isn’t flowing at all. Been very dry in SE Qld this year
BBQ Chicken for dinner
Cool, dinner was beautiful, BBQ chicken and jacket spuds. Yum. That had, we sat around and it was then I realised how tired I was from today’s walking. Thinking of going to bed Lyndall said its only 8:30ish. So I decided to make dessert before I fell asleep, need to do something. Apple and cinnamon damper was what I did, and low and behold, in the fridge I found some custard to go with. Yum ooooo.
Dogs are buggered from their walk. Why the white one has to sleep in the dirt we will never knowDirty, Dirty, Dirty. Lucky for the dog wash on site
Sat up for a little while after this listening to the movie playing on an iPad or DVD or something that the young couple camped next to us were watching, beats me why you hope camping to sit in your tent by 7:00pm to watch a DVD. Anyway, half the place could hear it I reckon. Any time for bed, so I left Lyndall up who wanted to chill for a while and I went to bed. I woke when she came in later which wasn’t long.
Sunday
This morning, Charlie woke me up with a kick to the ribs, so I got up out of our nice new really super super warm and comfy sleeping bags, to realize that it was 7:45. Lyndall followed me out of bed and it was coffee time. Kettle on and coffee made, did brekky again and I was time to go for a walk. As it turn out they had a dog wash on site today and as Sophie was filthy from laying in the dirt which she spend digging at for 20min each time, we decided a dog bath was on the cards for both of them.
” how much buddy, to do both dogs?
“$30, includes blow dry and nail clip and blah blah blah”
“Awesome, and so $45 and I can get the same?”
” as long as you use the same water!”
” cool I’ll go first then”
By this stage I think Lyndall wanted to tie me to a tree and walk away.
Ok dogs done, we walked back to camp, packed up the trailer and was on the road by 11:45. Stopped at Woodford for lunch, then at a road side stop for some fruit and veg, then hit the Bruce hwy home.
A great weekend had again.
The Wrap.
Neurem Creek Bush Retreat is a great place to go, with plenty of activities happening for everyone. Good maintained trails for walking and good amenities. We will be back again sometime.
